Bruin Formula Racing - 2025-26 Competition Season

Hi all! We are Bruin Formula Racing, UCLA’s Formula SAE racing team, and every year we design, manufacture, test, and race our formula-style car against teams from around the world in the competition put on by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) to encourage the hands-on application of engineering principles taught in our classes. Just like the teams you see in Formula 1, we have an entire team of innovative engineers, business and marketing specialists, and administrative powerhouses. But what makes it even more incredible…it’s ALL run by full time students excelling in both the classroom and on track!

As a student team, every donation counts and makes our dream of seeing our car running on track possible. We are so grateful for our donors and their generosity and look forward to making you proud this season!

There is a lot of cool engineering that makes a car run, let alone race. All of the bells and whistles that make our car ZOOM are designed and built by our engineering team. Our engineers apply the concepts they learned in class to a real life, full scale, competing racecar! The engineering department covers a wide range of different disciplines: mechanical, electrical, aerodynamics, chemical, material science, software, data science, mathematics, and machining, just to name a few. With 11 different subteams, there is a place for everyone pursue their interests, learn something new, and innovate new, exciting vehicle technology! 

Over an accelerated one-year design/build cycle, our engineers own their designs from start to finish, designing, manufacturing, testing, and validating their components and subsystems. At the end of the year, all of the engineering comes to life in the final result -- a fully fledged, lightning quick racecar! Coming off of our highest engineering design score in team history at our last competition, our engineering team is eager to build an even better racecar this upcoming year. 

Bruin Formula Racing could not be successful without all of the administrative and managing infrastructure provided by the business and marketing teams. Their efforts keep our team running like a well-oiled machine (no pun intended). Within business and marketing, team members procure team funding and resources, coordinate sponsorships and industry relationships, design team merchandise, organize team branding and social media presence, and keep our team operating smoothly.  

The framework and structure provided by our administrative team members bridges the gap between our dreams and our reality, allowing us to build an amazing, competitive vehicle! With more development and expansion of our business and marketing committees, these teams continue to grow and leave a lasting impact on our organization. 

Our organization is open to all! Our members come from all backgrounds, majors, ages...but we all share a passion for building the best racecar. Bruin Formula Racing cares about making engineering accessible and welcoming to all. We design specific trainings and projects to teach our members the necessary skills to be successful in the workplace. No previous experience or any type of membership dues are needed; we want to make sure that engineering is an accessible space where all can learn and grow. 

Although we put a lot of hard work into our car, we also take time to have fun! Whether it's karting at K1, a beach bonfire, or just hanging out on a food run, we love to spend time with each other. Bruin Formula Racing is more than just a club, it's our own little family!
