Support Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Lobbying!
Description
Who We Are
The mission of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Lobbying Committee is to ensure that the voices of women engineers are heard, respected, and taken into account in the government's decisions. We work to bridge the gap between technical expertise and public policy, advocating for legislation that advances STEM education, responsible artificial intelligence development, environmental protection, and opportunities for the next generation of STEM leaders.
We host on-campus events and opportunities for students across UCLA to learn how to get involved in lobbying. In our quarterly Write 4 Rights campaign, we present current bills being considered in the California legislature, encouraging discussion of the bills and teaching students how to reach out to their representatives to express their opinions. We hold additional events, from engineering policy discussions to a relief effort following the LA wildfires.
Lobbying Capitol Trip
Each year, our committee travels to Washington, D.C. or Sacramento to meet with legislators and their staff, share our perspectives, and advocate for policies that shape the future of engineering and science. These trips allow us to bring student voices directly to policymakers and build lasting relationships that strengthen our advocacy efforts.
Your donation will help fund our annual lobbying trip, covering the travel and accommodation expenses that make this work possible. Every contribution helps UCLA students participate in the policymaking process and ensures that the perspectives of aspiring women engineers are represented where important decisions are made. Help us bring our voices from UCLA to the government!
