The Daily Bruin Scholarship Campaign 2026

Help Daily Bruin staffers get the experience they need to become competitive professionals in journalism and media. 

For generations, the Daily Bruin has been more than a student newspaper. It's where students discover their passion for storytelling, find their voices, and gain the experience that shapes their future careers.

Since 2019, 55 Daily Bruin student staffers have received scholarships made possible by alumni, families, and supporters who believe in investing in the next generation of journalists and leaders.

This year, thanks to donors like you, we increased three DBAN crowdfunded merit scholarships from $2,500 to $3,000 each, providing more meaningful support to students who have demonstrated dedication to the Daily Bruin and aspire to careers in journalism and related fields.

Giving Back to Where It All Began

For many alumni, the Daily Bruin was where it all began. The first assignment, the late nights making deadline, the friendships and the experiences that opened doors long after leaving UCLA. 

Former Daily Bruin staffers and their families are returning to the community that helped shape them, establishing scholarships to give today's students the same opportunity to learn, grow, and pursue their journalistic ambitions.

Families and friends have created Daily Bruin scholarships in the memories of Eric Mandel '76, Philip Savenick '73, Dave McNary ’74, and Bob Seizer '54, ensuring their legacies live on through future generations of Daily Bruin staffers.

That same commitment to the next generation inspired DBAN co-founder Lawrence Ma ’95 and fellow alumni Zachary Aron ’94 and Robina Riccitiello ’84 to come together and establish an endowment supporting future scholarships. 

This month, we're raising funds for six to 10 merit scholarships for next year's Daily Bruin staffers.

Your gift will help recognize students who give so much of themselves to the Daily Bruin, while providing financial support as they pursue their education and future careers.

For alumni, it's a chance to give back to the newsroom that helped shape their own journeys. For today's students, it's a reminder that a community of Bruins believes in them and the stories they have yet to tell.
