UCLA Equestrian Team

Who We Are

The UCLA Equestrian Team is a club sport committed to providing opportunities for riders of all skill levels to pursue their passion for riding horses. Our tight-knit group of 20+ student-athletes works incredibly hard to improve their skills throughout the year, driving more than an hour to and from the barn to train with our wonderful coach, Deirdra Davis. To showcase our hard work, we attend five competitions a year, two of which are co-hosted by our team. The opportunity to continue our passion, even amid the hectic college life, is a testament to our devotion to this sport, which is so time-consuming and expensive.

Post-Season Highlights

This past season has been very successful with high-point rider/team winnings and a Nationals qualification! Three of our riders qualified for regionals in the Novice and Intermediate categories: Emma L, Fiona, and Lara. After getting second in regionals, Fiona moved on to zones at Stanford and won the blue ribbon in her Intermediate Flat class! In addition, our horse Pimms was nominated for the region's Horse of the Year award for his consistency in jumping rounds.

Season Summary

As a team, we co-hosted two shows with UCSD, which were a great success. During our first show of the year, we won the reserve high point team both days, with our freshman Ava winning reserve high point rider on Sunday and tying with our senior Lilly on Saturday. Our co-hosted show in the fall resulted in our getting the high-point team and Fiona as the high-point rider. At our last show of the season, we won high-point team, with riders Lilly and Fiona receiving high-point rider and reserve, respectively. Receiving the high-point team award is an accomplishment for all our competitors and demonstrates the overall aptitude of our team. None of our success would have been possible without the support of our coach, Deirdra Davis, who, through her hard work and perseverance, brought us to our highest level of performance yet.

What Does It Cost?

Our sport is expensive! As college athletes, we try to minimize costs whenever possible; however, competition and horse expenses are not cheap. With your generosity, we are able to host our own shows with funds going towards the venue, horses, trailering, and more. As a club sport, we receive almost no funding from UCLA and rely on YOUR support to keep this team running. Any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated and will not go unnoticed. Thank you!

Trail ride!

Additionally, any gently used tack, such as saddles, girths, bridles, or rider apparel, is very appreciated. For more information on how to donate items, please contact uclaequestrian@gmail.com
