Fellowship for International Service and Health (FISH) 2026
Road to Health Equity: Funding Service Trips to Maclovio Rojas

The Fellowship for International Service and Health (FISH) is a student-led nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the health of Maclovio Rojas, Mexico. Its community members lack access to medical care, higher education, and transportation, hindering their access to preventative healthcare. We execute fifteen trips to Maclovio Rojas each school year, providing free blood glucose tests, blood pressure screenings, BMI measurements, and English lessons for children and adults. For twenty-two years our mission has been to promote sustainable healthcare practices in Maclovio. Our overarching goal is to provide the community with the necessary skills and knowledge to help them independently take charge of their own healthcare.
A word from our CEO, Christian Avila: "Our mission is to support the community of Malcovio Rojas, Mexico through various health screenings, English lessons, and lifestyle interventions. On campus, we partner with global health professionals and UCLA organizations to deepen our understanding and share the importance behind global health initiatives with other students."

As we continuously look for ways to improve our services in Maclovio Rojas, we communicate with community leaders and conduct focus groups with community members to understand how we can expand our efforts in a beneficial way. After recent discussions, we collectively decided that providing office supplies on our service trips to the Maclovio Rojas Medical Clinic would allow us to provide better patient care.
The medical clinic would benefit from office supplies:
office desks
filing cabinets
storage bins
metal storage shelves
trash cans
waiting room chairs and fans
By donating, you allow us to purchase these items for our trips to the medical clinic. This supplies is a crucial next step in improving access to preventative healthcare services in Maclovio Rojas. Your help will allow us to continue adapting to the evolving needs of the community and improve the pressing health disparities present in Maclovio Rojas.

This Spring, we ask friends, family, and community members for their support. You can also assist our efforts by spreading the mission of FISH to those around you.
Our objective is to enhance residents' health literacy and empower them to effectively manage their well-being. Through our biweekly health screenings at the local market, which are both accessible and cost-free, we play a pivotal role in promoting preventative healthcare to Maclovio Rojas inhabitants. We provide invaluable insights on blood pressure, blood glucose, mental health, aging, and exercise, fostering empowerment and comprehension within the community. In addition, our biweekly English classes contribute to students' well-being and English proficiency, potentially paving the way for higher education opportunities. We collaborate closely with community members to set lifestyle goals and offer local resources to aid in their achievement.
