49th Samahang Pilipino Cultural Night

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, Samahang Pilipino will present its 49th Annual Samahang Pilipino Cultural Night (SPCN). With a cast of over 300 students, our production weaves together traditional dance, original storytelling, and music to reflect the richness, complexity, and lived experiences of Pilipinx and Pilipinx-American culture.

For nearly five decades, SPCN has stood as a testament to the resilience and spirit of the Pilipinx community. We aim to continue this legacy by cultivating unity through both education and performance, guided by our core values of one family and cultural edutainment.

Below is a budget breakdown of this year's production costs and what your donation will go towards.

This year’s SPCN presents “Mayon, Padaba Ko,” meaning “Mayon, My Love” in Bicolano. Set in early 19th century Bicol during the Spanish colonial era, the story follows a community navigating the forces of colonial authority, religious influence, and social expectation, all while living in the presence of the Mayon Volcano. At its center is Maya, a young Pilipina whose role within her family places her at the heart of a union meant to maintain power and order.

Inspired by the legend of the Daragang Magayon, the story draws on themes of love, loss, and inevitability across generations. As she begins to question these structures, Maya forms a forbidden relationship that challenges both societal norms and colonial control. Alongside a community resisting displacement and fighting to be heard, the story explores what it means to protect identity, love, and home. Through themes of class divide, machismo, and queer relationships, the narrative reflects both a historical past and its continued relevance today.

Productions like these create space for students to reconnect with their heritage while reminding audiences of the importance of keeping our stories alive. Through them, we carry forward the legacies and traditions that continue to shape us. Your support allows this production—and these stories—to live on.
