What is FEM Newsmagazine?

Hi! We are FEM, UCLA's intersectional feminist newsmagazine dedicated to the empowerment of all people, the recognition of gender diversity, the dismantling of systems of oppression, and the application of intersectional feminist ideology. With over 100 student journalists on our team, we work hard to present perspectives that might be otherwise silenced in the mainstream media. We aim to offer insight on matters we believe are essential to the feminist cause and provide a space for creative feminist work. 

To keep doing this important work for the UCLA community and beyond, we need your help.

FEM currently receives a $5000 budget from Student Media, however, most of that money is allocated to print issues. Printing physical magazines cost around $1200-$1500 a quarter, which leaves us with not a lot of funds left. We are seeking funds to support community-driven projects, enhance local engagement, and attend more events as journalists. This will help us amplify underrepresented voices and create meaningful connections within the community.

Previous crowdfunding campaigns allowed us to accomplish a lot and continue growing our newsmagazine on campus. FEM needs funding to support our discussions surrounding intersectional feminism—we bring people of all backgrounds together to further our mission statement. This funding gives us the freedom to fairly compensate our editors and also allocates resources to the printing of our physical magazines. 

With your donations, we will be able to host more successful events; create meaningful articles, designs, videos, and radio shows for both our website and print; and keep supporting our FEM family. Your donation will go directly to supporting emerging journalists and creatives embarking on their careers during a time in which inclusive discourse in journalism and community care are crucial. Because of your contribution to FEM, we will be able to provide vital information to our community as we navigate the current landscape of the world. 

Looking Ahead

Previous FEM crowdfunding campaigns helped keep us afloat during troubling, unprecedented times. We have always been and always will be entirely 100% student-led—that's part of what makes FEM so special. As student journalists, we are able to share our unique insights as well as empower young feminists at UCLA. We arm our audience with tools to navigate the world by offering feminist analysis, news, and creative work. 

FEM isn't just a publication. It unites people from all different backgrounds who are committed to unlearning and relearning alongside our global audience. We are a tight-knit community of people who come together to learn and grow from each other and build lifelong friendships along the way.
