Chinese American Culture Night 2025

Chinese American Culture Night (CACN) is an annual stage production in the prestigious Royce Hall at UCLA. The show will take place on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, and is free for all to attend. More than 200 students put in countless hours of work, practice, and rehearsal to put on a show for over 1500 members of the community. CACN celebrates Chinese-American culture through the presentation of a student-created play and utilizes performances by ACA Dance, Chinese Cultural Dance Club, UCLA Wushu, ACA Lion Dance, UCLA Music of China Ensemble, and CACN Drama to educate and inspire the greater community on relevant issues that affect us all today and to promote Chinese-American cultural awareness on and beyond the UCLA campus. We are extremely excited to be hosting another great production!

【什麼是華美文化晚會 (CACN)】

華美文化晚會 (CACN) 是UCLA一年一度的舞台劇公演。演出將于2025年5月3日星期六在UCLA著名的Royce Hall舉行，並且免費對外開放。超過一百多名的社團成員，投入了無數的時間和心血，努力的練習與彩排，將為超過一千多名的社區觀眾呈現一場精彩的演出。CACN以展示學生創作的舞台劇來慶祝美籍華人文化，並且也邀請到ACA舞蹈社、中國文化舞蹈社、UCLA武術社、ACA舞獅社、UCLA 中國國樂團以及CACN話劇社共同參與演出。針對我們息息相關的問題，CACN 透過戲劇的表演來教育和激勵廣大的社區，並在UCLA校內外提升美籍華人的文化意識。我們非常高興CACN有幸主辦這場文化晚會。

This year our show follows a 20 year old film student, who yearns to find creative vision in something more personal. His anxieties are amplified by the passing of his maternal grandfather from China, who was a well-respected photographer, leaving him to contend with the loss of someone he admired yet feels he lacked a proper connection with. However, this event grants him an unexpected opportunity: his parents decide to bring his grandmother from China to the US. Having spent his entire life in the US, he initially struggles with navigating the newly presented language barrier, especially as his grandmother’s dementia worsens. That is, until he finds his grandfather’s old photo album. Motivated to uncover a family mystery sparked by the photographs, he embarks on a journey he never would’ve imagined – one which enables him to learn about his family history, language, and heritage.

我们今年的故事围绕着一名渴望在创作的灵感上找到自己的二十岁摄影学生。当他的外公，一个知名的摄影师过世后， 他发现自己很想但是却无法真正理解的一个人，是他仰慕但没有真正相处过的人。但外公的过世导致他的爸妈把外婆接到了美国和他们一起住，这也给他带来了一个让他和外婆相处的机会。但在美国长大的他逐渐发现他们不仅语言不通，外婆的老年痴呆还越来越严重。但有一天，他发现了爷爷以前的一个相册。从此，他踏上了一个他从未想象过的旅行 。

The Chinese American Culture Night is a completely free event for all UCLA students and members of the general community to attend. In total, this year's production costs over $50,000, with the venue alone costing over $43,000. To keep the event free, we must crowdfund to cover all the costs of our production. Hundreds of students have volunteered to put in countless hours of their time and dedicate their passions to making this production happen every year. Therefore, we will continue to make this a free event and available to all as we recognize the importance of raising awareness of our unique biculturality and we ask you, the community for your continuous support. Featuring performances from CACN Drama, ACA Lion Dance, UCLA Wushu, ACA Dance, Chinese Cultural Dance Club, and UCLA Music of China Ensemble, CACN showcases the multitude of ways in which students uphold and celebrate Chinese culture here at UCLA.

【CACN Drama | CACN 話劇社】

CACN utilizes drama to tell a story that highlights relevant issues and struggles facing the Chinese American community today. Student actors and actresses audition for a role in CACN's Drama Aspect. Those given a role put in countless hours of rehearsal to effectively deliver a performance that will impact so many people.

華美文化晚會運用敘述故事方式的舞台劇，來凸顯當今美藉華人社區所面臨的問題與矛盾。參與演出的學生演員，都是通過甄選試鏡的過程，而獲得既定的角色。所有的演員投入了無數的時間努力排練，將為廣大的觀眾群呈現一場深具影響力的表演。

【Jade Lotus Lion Dance |  舞玉獅蓮】

ACA Lion Dance Lion dance is a traditional Chinese dance in which the dancers are masked and costumed to resemble lions. UCLA ACA Lion Dance is a student-run team that entertains and performs at many locales and celebrations in the Los Angeles area.

舞獅是一種中國傳統舞蹈，舞者們扮成獅子模樣，穿戴華麗的獅子頭套與裝扮。UCLA ACA舞獅社是由學生經營的團隊，在洛杉磯地區許多慶典活動中進行表演。

ACA Dance is a competitive dance team based at UCLA, comprised of dancers who share a love for all styles of dance and performance. Building a foundation in professionalism and love for one another, ACA Dance hopes to inspire and be inspired in the dance community and beyond.

UCLA ACA 舞蹈社是由一群熱愛各類舞蹈以及各式表演風格的舞者，所組成的競技舞蹈隊。ACA 舞蹈社以專業及博愛的精神為基礎，希望能與舞蹈界及其他領域，互相鼓勵、激勵彼此。

UCLA Wushu Promoting the spirit of Wushu, a Chinese martial art that combines aesthetics and power, UCLA Wushu delivers stunning performances filled with feats of strength, agility, and grace.

中國武術是一種結合力與美的表現。UCLA 武術社為了弘揚武術精神，呈現了無數令人震撼及讚嘆的表演。他們的演出不僅充滿著力量與敏捷度，也融合著優雅的表現。

【Chinese Cultural Dance Club | 中國文化舞蹈社】

Chinese Cultural Dance Club (CCDC) CCDC is a non-profit, student-run organization that seeks to promote appreciation of Chinese culture through Chinese folk and contemporary dance. The only UCLA dance group that focuses on traditional dance, CCDC epitomizes grace and elegance.

 中國文化舞蹈社是一個非營利性的學生組織，主旨在通過中國民間舞蹈和現代舞來宣揚對中華文化的欣賞。 中國文化舞蹈社是優雅的表徵，也是UCLA唯一專注於中國傳統舞蹈的舞蹈團體。

【UCLA Music of China Ensemble | UCLA 中國音樂樂團】

The Music of China Ensemble performs traditional music of Chinese wind and string instruments. The ensemble hopes to promote the steady growth of interest in Chinese culture on campus and in local communities by demonstrating and performing Chinese traditional music at concerts, festivals, and showcases. Some instruments that students play in the ensemble are the erhu, zheng, dizi, yangqin, pipa, ruan, sanxian, qin, and sheng. 

中國音樂樂團以中國管弦樂器演奏中國傳統音樂。樂團希望透過在音樂會和節慶的演出中展示中國傳統音樂，以促進校園和當地社區對中國文化興趣的增長。學生在樂團中演奏的樂器有二胡、古箏、笛子、揚琴、琵琶、阮、三弦、琴和笙。
