Imagine walking into a doctor’s office with questions about your health—your risks, your family history, and how your genes might impact your future. Now imagine having a highly trained professional by your side, guiding you through the complex world of genetic information and helping you make the best decisions for yourself and your loved ones. That’s the power of genetic counselors and that’s why the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and UCLA’s Institute for Precision Health work together to facilitate the training of genetic counselors in the UCLA Master of Science in Genetic Counseling Program.
Genetic counselors are at the heart of precision medicine. They translate cutting-edge science into life-changing insights, helping patients navigate genetic risks for cancer, rare diseases, and more. They bring both expertise and empathy to moments that can feel overwhelming. But here’s the challenge: there simply aren’t enough of them.
That’s why we’re here today. We need to train more genetic counselors, and we need your help. Our goal is to raise $10,000 to fund 10 scholarships for master’s students in genetic counseling. These scholarships will help ensure that passionate, talented individuals—who might not otherwise afford it—can enter this critical field.
