WHAT IS JHOOMTI SHAAM?

Jhoomti Shaam is the West Coast's premier Bollywood-Fusion dance competition. For the past 23 years, we have been committed to uniting collegiate teams from across the country to showcase their creativity and talent in a variety of South Asian and fusion dance styles. From Hindi-film dance, to Bharatanatyam, to Hip-Hop, Jhoomti Shaam encourages innovation in choreography, production, and storytelling, and offers performers the opportunity to share their heritage through dance. As a part of the larger Desi Dance Network Inc., we offer collegiate teams the chance to earn points towards selection at the national competition held in Charlotte, NC next year.

WHO WE ARE

We are a group of 20 students passionate about dance and promoting South Asian culture, both on campus and in the greater Los Angeles area. As a sister organization to UCLA Nashaa, UCLA's premier competitive Bollywood-Fusion dance team, we have danced with each other for years, forging a close-knit bond through countless hours of practice and traveling together to compete across the nation. While we continue to dance together, we are also committed to organizing a competition much like the ones we competed at, and putting on an event for other dancers to make the same life-long memories we created with each other. Jhoomti Shaam is a family spanning 23 years and hundreds of dancers, and we aim to carry on our extensive legacy by organizing an event that aptly celebrates South Asian culture and community.

As a student-run organization, we raise all of the funds necessary for planning our competition ourselves. From securing a state-of-the-art performance venue to providing food, transportation, and a media team, we face significant financial challenges each year. That's why we're seeking the generosity of donors like you to help us realize our vision of this year's event. Your support will help us provide our dancers with an unforgettable weekend filled with community, culture, and most importantly, dance! Our goal is to raise $6,000, which will go towards paying for our theater venue and providing food and transportation for the hundreds of dancers traveling to LA this February!
