About SOLES

 The Society of Latinx Engineers and Scientists at UCLA (SOLES) is a student organization in the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science, and is a student chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE). We center around empowering Latinx students in engineering and science both at the UCLA and at nearby K-12 schools.

SOLES' Internship Pipeline Program is designed to expose new students, especially freshmen and transfers, to the recruiting process and help them become strong internship candidates. It includes three student-led workshops covering topics like resume building, project development, and career fair tips. Participants also gain access to resources such as the SOLES Internship Application Bank, which features over 500 applications per quarter, and 24/7 career support through SOS services by our Professional Development Chair. A key feature of the program is its emphasis on one-on-one mentorship, pairing students with experienced upperclassmen to guide them through the internship search.This support is especially critical at the SHPE National Conference, where students have the opportunity to connect with numerous companies and recruiters. Last year, 83% of SOLESitos who went through recived an internship or full time offer!

2022 SHPE Nationals in Charlotte, North Carolina: 40 students, 40 reimbursed $225 (registration + travel + lodging)

2023 SHPE Nationals in Salt Lake City, Utah: 50 students, 25 reimbursed $225 (registration + travel + lodging)

2024 SHPE Nationals in Anaheim, California: 50 Students, 30 reimbursed $165 (registration)

Attending the SHPE National Conference can be financially challenging for students, with tickets costing around $200, housing another $200, and flight prices varying widely, bringing the total to over $700 per student. This is why SOLES crucially needs your help: to ensure that all students, regardless of financial background, have the opportunity to attend, grow professionally, and connect with top employers.
