This year's (Spark) Crowdfunding Campaign!

February 27, 2025

Dear Smaug Family,

Greetings from the 2024-2025 teams! Happy 1-year anniversary of your previous donation to UCLA Men’s Ultimate Frisbee! Thanks to the kindness and generosity of donors like yourself, we raised more than $10,000. Your donation helped us attend a tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee and one in Seattle too. It was such an incredibly fun and valuable experience, and we can’t thank you enough for providing that for all of us.

This year, our team is once again raising money for the tournaments we travel to during the season. We're launching our campaign starting today, February 27th! Your support to help keep this team affordable means the world to us because this team means the world to us. We are truly hoping you can once again help give us the opportunity to attend these tournaments and have such memorable experiences.

Please visit https://crowdfunding.ucla.edu/mensultimate2025 to learn more and donate to our campaign!

On behalf of me and all of my teammates, thank you for your ongoing support, whether you're donating, keeping in touch, coming out to tournaments, or cheering us on from home. Go Bruins!!

Sincerely,

UCLA Men’s Ultimate 2024-2025

Smaug and Smoke Winter Quarter

February 12, 2025

Dear Smaug and Smoke Family,

Hope you are all doing well!

Just wanted to give a mid-quarter update on how Smaug and Smoke have been doing this winter. Smaug competed at their first season tournament, Santa Barbara Invite, 2 weeks ago, and Smoke just came out of two hard fought tournaments in the last two weekends. Smoke went 3-3 at PDQ, holding seed. Stanford was a tougher tournament, but there was lots of improvement and lots more to come.

At SBI, Smaug had a great time competing against teams up the west coast and against teams farther east. It was a great opportunity to play against great teams, learn from them, and play together as one team. Taking down UCSD was one of our highlights of the tournament (among other incredible individual highlights). A special thank you to Julie and Sean Snodgress (Empire's parents), Letty and Eddie (Desperaux's parents), and Byranie and Tyler (Legacy's parents) for hosting Smaug at SBI. They went above and beyond with everything, making dinner for the whole team, birthday cakes for Duke and La Croix, and being so welcoming. Thank you so much.

Looking ahead to this coming weekend, Smaug will be going to San Diego to compete at President's Day Invite! We've had a few good weeks of training to prepare since SBI, and we're super excited to see what we'll do this weekend.

Thanks for keeping in touch with Smaug and Smoke and being our biggest supporters.

YEAH SMAUG!!!

Happy New Years from Smaug and Smoke!

January 03, 2025

Dear Donors,

Happy New Year and warm wishes for a great holiday season! As we bid farewell to 2024 and welcome 2025, we wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude for your continued support of our team. Your generosity and encouragement mean the world to us, and they truly make it possible for us to continue playing.

This past fall was focused on welcoming our new teammates and training to get ready for the season. We were thrilled to welcome the new members of our team, and they all bring a new energy to the team. Playing, training, working out, and hanging out with the team has been amazing, and a reminder of why we love this sport. We will be sending another update closer to our first tournament with pictures and names, and more details about tournaments!

As winter approaches, we're more and more excited for the start of the season and our tournaments. Practices are ramping up, and we’re putting in the work to be ready to compete at our best. With a mix of returning players and fresh talent, we're really excited for this season.

Our tournament schedule will look like this, this year:

Jan 25-26, Santa Barbara Invite

Feb 15-17, Presidents Day Invite in SD

Mar 8-9, Stanford Invite at Stanford

Mar 22-23, Northwest Challenge in Seattle

Conferences will be Apr 12-13 or 19-20

Regionals will be Apr 26-27 or May 3-4

Nationals (hopefully) May 23-26

Please join this parent's groupme (https://groupme.com/join_group/91685327/AutdgS1j) if you're interested in keeping up with Smaug and Smoke and coming to tournaments!

We’re incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated network of supporters like you. Your supporting and cheering keeps us going. Thank you for being such an important part of our program.

Wishing you and your loved ones a wonderful start to the new year, happiness, health, and lots of reasons to celebrate.

YEAH SMAUG!!!

Sincerely, Smaug and Smoke

$1.36

1 Drill

Drills are the backbone of any Smaug or Smoke practice. At a rate of $17 for 50 cones, just $1.36 can buy four cones, enough to set up any number of our favorite drills!

$9.99

1 Disc

What do throwing, catching, getting layout Ds, and spiking have in common? They all require a disc! The classic 175-gram Discraft UltraStar costs $10, but we wrote $9.99 so you'd think you were saving money.

$25

Get 4 players to a tournament

The Chevron™ in Westwood at 10984 Le Conte Ave currently charges $5.30 per gallon of gasoline -- whew! Given that the average white van gets 13 miles per gallon, and that we can fit 8 people into a van, this donation covers gasoline for a 4 players transportation to a tournament 119 miles away in San Diego -- and a stick of gum for the driver!

$50

Motivate a player

For just a $50 donation, we will assign your name to one player. If at any time during practice, that players motivation for the team falters, they have to shout your name and remember that you didn't donate so that they could be weak.

$100

1 Night of Great Sleep

Your $100 donation will pay for a motel room that houses five players for one night of a weekend tournament. Just 5 of these $100 donations cover lodging for the whole team for a night!

$250

1 Flight to Tennessee-ish

This generous donation of $250 provides funds for a round-trip plane ticket to a tournament in Tennessee! $250 is sufficient for a round-trip plane ticket across the country because we are flying at unholy hours into unholy airports. Yeah, you could say we're thrifty.

$500

One Whole Tournament

A $500 donation covers the entire cost of a bid to attend a tournament. Without paying this, we would not be able to attend a given tournament. This donation, simply put, singlehandedly allows us to stunt on teams across the country.

$1,000

Lodging for a tournament

This donation will cover our entire costs of lodging for the team for a whole weekend tournament!

$5,000

Name the C-team

Our program is growing, and we may have to add a second developmental team! For the low, low, price of $5000, we'll name that team whatever you choose.* *within reason, obviously
