*STRETCH GOAL* 47th Samahang Pilipino Cultural Night
On Saturday, May 18, 2024, Samahang Pilipino will present its 47th Annual Samahang Pilipino Cultural Night (SPCN). SPCN serves as an expression of the experiences within Pilipinx and Pilipinx-American culture as a means of raising awareness and appreciation through a cast of 300+ students performing in traditional dances interwoven with an original script and music.
For nearly five decades, SPCN has served as a means of showcasing the vitality and perseverance of the Pilipinx community. Our aim is to uphold this commitment and unity in education and entertainment, guided by SPCN’s core values of one family and cultural edutainment.
Below is a budget breakdown of this year's production costs and what your donation will go towards.
This year, our show title is “Kung Saan Tayo Nagsimula” meaning “From Where We Started.” Here is the synopsis:
Malaya, Lohan, and Michelle, college students, embark on a journey to research the overlooked 1930s Watsonville riots. As Malaya uncovers old love letters exchanged between Ernesto and Dorothy, she unwittingly ignites a chain of unexpected events that test the bonds of their future relationships. Intrigued by the forbidden romance, Malaya unveils the forgotten story of Filipino-American farm workers remembered by oppressive conditions and societal rejection. However, delving deeper into the past begins to unravel Malaya's mental health. Is the story of the Watsonville riots just the beginning, or is there a darker narrative lurking beneath?
Productions such as these offer students like us the chance to delve into their heritage while also educating the audience on the broader significance of keeping stories alive, allowing us to carry forward the legacies and traditions born from them. Your donation allows us to keep this production alive.
