Empowering Education: Splash - A Student-Run Initiative Fostering Learning and Inclusivity at UCLA

Who are we?

Splash@UCLA is a student-run organization that invites local high schoolers to UCLA each April to attend a day of classes designed and taught by undergraduate students. We hope to spread the joys of teaching among university students and both the importance and fun of learning among high schoolers. Teachers can teach classes on anything that they are passionate about, with past topics ranging from metaphysics to skincare to writing the perfect college application essay. By allowing students the freedom to choose their own classes and providing opportunities to learn about the college application process, we hope to nurture students’ curiosity and encourage them to further their education.

How do we run the event?

The event is run by UCLA student volunteers, who teach the classes, run the event on the day-of, and handle all the behind-the-scenes logistics. However, the event still requires expenditures. Some of our biggest costs come from reserving the classrooms where we can host the event. Additionally, in the spirit of making this program as accessible as possible, especially for students from underserved communities in Los Angeles, we also provide free lunches for students, which is our other major expenditure source. We are also in the process of looking for ways to provide buses to further increase accessibility and ease of transportation for students. See below for more details on anticipated cost breakdowns for the 2024 event:

How can I get involved?

You can get involved by donating! All of the money will go towards our annual spring event. We are committed to keeping this program free to attend, so we are entirely dependent on donations and grants to keep the program running. We have suggested giving levels for our various expenditures, but please feel free to give any amount you’d like! We are very grateful for your generosity!
