Fueling the Future: Support Bruin Supermileage

Who are we?

Bruin Supermileage is a UCLA racing club dedicated to sustainable automotive engineering. Since 2004, our team of innovative mechanical, electrical, chemical, and computer engineers have come together to design and build the most efficient vehicle possible, from ground-up. We train our members on industry standard tools and softwares, equipping them to make a significant positive impact in the workforce.

This year Bruin Supermileage is competing in the international Shell Eco-Marathon Competition. We are taking our smart-car sized vehicle from UCLA to Indiana, to race against teams from around the world on the official Indianapolis 500 racetrack. Vehicle success is not measured by speed, but by fuel efficiency. We have a long history of excellence; our historical record is 1,239.5 mpg and 27.92 mi/kWh for our gas and electric vehicles, respectively! Last year, we won third place in the Urban Concept Electric Vehicle category, first place in the Data and Telemetry category, and second place in the Design and Innovation category. Most of these students came with no prior knowledge, only with a passion for innovation.

Our next project....hydrogen!

As we are continuously committed to achieving a zero-carbon world; this year, we are working on an exciting new project: hydrogen. Over 80 members are working on designing and building a brand-new hydrogen vehicle from ground-up including the electrical schematics, structural chassis, and software, which are developed by our team to be as energy-efficient as possible. We are faced with the task of hydrogen fuel cell implementation and integration.

How can you help?

Our goals will not be possible without the generous support of our community. Not only will your donation help cover the cost of all the various components of the vehicle, it will also help subsidize flights, lodging, and food for competition, as we aim to keep member costs as low as possible!

We hope to show that it is possible to make a “green car”, utilizing sustainable and eco-friendly sources of energy, without compromising on practicality and efficiency. Ultimately, our goal is to inspire other organizations and those within the automotive industry to make our transportation systems more efficient and sustainable in the long run!
