Thank you for a Successful Inaugural Scholarship Campaign.
Hi everyone!
On behalf of UCLA first generation students, thank you for your generous donations! We raised a total of $10,475 during our 10 day inaugural scholarship campaign. We also had matching donors to make this fundraising a successful and fun experience as well. The funds will be used to support first-gen Bruins’ tuition, room & board, books & supplies, etc., as they pursue to complete their degree at UCLA. I am so proud of the Bruin community coming together to help support this important cause and achieve great results!
Although the campaign is over for this year, the giving opportunity remains open. Please visit and share our ongoing giving page by clicking here: UCLA First-Gen Scholarship Fund.
As we enter the holiday season and spirit of giving, I’d like wish you all a happy Thanksgiving with family and friends. Be well and stay safe!
With gratitude,
Fred Tan

THANK YOU FOR GETTING US HALF-WAY TO OUR GOAL!
Wow, in just 2 days, thanks to the support and generosity of our donors, we have reached 54% of our goal.
The FGAN board of directors is extremely thankful for your help getting us to this point. There are still 8 days remaining and we hope you can share this message with your extended network of friends and family.
"According to the Education Advisory Board (EAB), 33% of first-generation students leave college within three years of starting. While there are many contributing factors, the main reasons first-generation students leave are 1) financial burdens, 2) lack of support, and 3) inequitable access to resources."
Our goal with this inaugural scholarship fund is to relieve the financial burden and ensure the success of UCLA first-gen students.
If you have already donated, you can still help by spreading the word of this campaign. We could use your continued support with sharing our fundraiser via emails, text or on social media.
Thank you again, go Bruins!
With sincere gratitude,
The FGAN Board of Directors
$5
Coffee at Northern Lights
Your donation can pay for a first-gen Bruin to get coffee, tea, or a quick snack between classes.
$20
Dinner w/friends
Many first-gens struggle to pay for basic needs on campus, including food. Your gift will help a student buy dinner after a long day of studying.
$50
Tank of gas
Maybe it's for gas, maybe it's Big Blue Bus fare for a month. Either way, your donation means that one more first-gen Bruin will get to and from campus without worrying.
$75
Internet access
Almost all UCLA courses are online these days, but high-speed internet access is expensive--and many first-gens can't afford it. Your gift of $75 will keep a student connected.
$100
Tutoring session
Even students who study hard sometimes need a little extra help. Unfortunately, many first-gen students can't afford tutoring. Your donation will allow a struggling student get their learning back on track.
$175
Unexpected medical bill
In this pandemic moment, lots of Bruins are struggling to stay physically and mentally healthy. Insurance doesn't always cover the full cost of a trip to the doc--but your donation can help a first-gen student afford the bill.
$250
Textbooks
Textbooks are expensive, and the cost can be an especially big burden for low-income first-gen students. Your thoughtful gift of $250 will help cover a student's bill at the uni bookstore.
